Personally was pretty happy with my experience here. Yes a little out dated but it has all the necessary things. Best part were the shamble staff and rental car area. Rental car area was right across, very clean and well organized. Staff were helpful, understanding and polite. Only underlying factors were toilets needed more cleanliness and airport terminals were small for bigger flights. The terminals were crowded than usual because of this. One other aspect was that there was no AC in the airport. It was all open airport. All in all this airport has its own history and it’s beautiful in its own way.

How fabulous it is to be a American express platinum card holder. Today we flew from Honolulu to Los Angeles and spent some time at the delta lounge. Absolute fabulous food and service beyond our expectations. 10 people in the lounge, and the same amount of wonderful people serving us. The staff from entering the lounge, to the very accommodating staff was very wonderful. After having our lunch, (the chicken salad was outstanding), we mentioned how wonderful it would be to have a dessert. 5 minutes later a really cute guy came over with some fresh baked macadamia nut cookies. I’ve got to say: fabulous!!!!!!!! Thank you so much Delta and the staff at the Delta lounge in Honolulu. Andree

Airport is very old and clearly showing its age. They have started renovations but the actual airport itself is just falling apart. It leaks everywhere when it rains. But the airport has a very unique feel to it as there are very few open air airports in the world and the central garden area is great to just walk around in to relax. Unfortunately due to the open air nature of the airport it is always loud and you can never get away from the sound of jet engine turbines no matter where in the airport you go aside from the newer Hawaiian Airlines terminal which is fully closed structure.

Some of the terminals are a bit dated. I liked how ticketing at the older terminal was indoors yet open to the outdoors as was some walkways to some gates with a garden. Hawaiian Airlines does have a newer terminal but shops not finished yet. The rental car center is updated and makes it easy to pick up and return rental cars.

Nothing wrong that I experienced here. This airport is a little dated but the zen garden makes up for it when you land. All your airport needs are here. Smaller airport than other big cities but that’s ok too. Great airport, great staff, nice terminals, what more can you ask for? Glad it’s there for us all to fly in and out of.

I think what makes this airport so unique is how open it is. The warm ocean air wife’s throughout the entire airport with all of the open windows to the outside. It’s not uncommon to see birds flying in and out of the terminal which is quite uncommon most of other airports in the country. You can definitely feel the relaxed and rich island culture when you walk off of your plane and enter this airport. Ferry open and beautiful but not much air-conditioning.

My first time experiencing this airport but I am disappointed. It’s 2022 and they do not have charging stations for customers. Literally people are laying down in the hallway and sitting on edges to charge their phones/electronics. Please be warned! You’ll need to either a back up charger or find an end seat that’s not already taken. Also, the outside area is not shaded from the sun. I was waiting on the seats but the sun was killing me. I get it it’s Hawaii and the sun shines here bright but add a bench inside for people to wait to check on. Also, please remember to go to the US Agricultural inspection prior to checking in your flight. Look for the green signs above. I can not recommend this airport. I expect better especially a vacation destination like Hawaii.

Decent airport. Kind of old looking. The car rental was close so that was good. I like that they didn’t have any air conditioning in the front because it made it seem more tropical. The guy at the security let the lady in front of me go with a bag of sand but he took my rocks. I only had three. Small ones. That was not cool. But I didn’t get a fine so that was good.

Relatively easy to get around this airport. There are not many restaurants or food shops to eat at this airport along with a few gift shops. Most of them are closed as soon as it gets dark. The amount of time to get to the gates going through security check in is quite quick. So I don’t think you will need to come alot early to take your flight. It’s not a modern airport by any means, but it’s efficient. If you accidentally walk in the wrong direction looking for the gate, all you have to do is turn around and walk in the other direction and you will find it.

I have seen this airport grow from a small airport where you had to walk across the tarmac just to get to your plane or to the terminal. I do miss it when it was open and airy. With the big tree in the middle. They have done some nice improvement to the place. It is still not an international airport but for our local airport it works. Supposedly they will be making more improvements to bring the airport to international airport status.

Very small airport, not very used to this, but it is what it is. The entire airport is outdoors, there are no enclosed shops or restaurants, other than the one that was closed at the time. The people are friendly and the service is rather fast since there aren’t many flights leaving out of here. The bar/ restaurant located inside was closed; no bars or anything where you can get a quick cocktail. There are vending machines inside, so if you’re thirsty you can grab a beverage.

This is probably one of the coolest airports in the entire world. You are pretty much hanging out outside, and it’s warm. Hang out long enough and it’s probably going to rain. There’s a small bar where you can hang out with air conditioning, but it’s real busy so don’t expect it to be super cold inside. The drinks are good! They had food to order there and also ready made food to jump on the airplane with. Great gift shops, and it’s not too common that you get to walk right out on the runway to get on the airplane. That’s a nice old fashioned way to do it.

Island vibes at the Kona airport! It’s open air, no air conditioning but a natural breeze that comes to keep you cool. There’s an information booth with an amazing customer service and free flowers ? for you to take. We had to wait some extra time for our rental and they directed us to take the heli-on bus to Kona. It was a free transportation system that runs on island time every hour or so. On our way back we had to wait for our flight and waited in a green grassy area with beautiful trees in the front of the airport. You are allowed to take fruits between the islands but not to the mainland. Everything runs smoothly at this airport?

KOA is a nice regional airport. It’s not too big so there’s never far to walk. It’s also super easy to drop people off. And so conversely It’s also nice and easy to pick people off. I’ve also been blessed to never see a long TSA line here. There is one extra agricultural check added before leaving. But that goes quick enough. And you are on your way before you know it.

While the view of the sky and foliage is nice, this doesn’t make up for the rest of the worn and weather beaten airport. This is an open air building. You are exposed to the elements and it’s not always pleasant weather. The overall airport is very dated. The seating is atrocious and extremely uncomfortable. When you have to wait hours to board a flight, wooden benches with slats, iron dividers, aren’t the way to go. The restrooms are very old, yellowe, and dirty with age plus being exposed to the elements. Overall the airport needs an update. The staff was wonderful and very pleasant.
